What you can build with tube clamp fittings
Tube, fitting, Allen key – that is all it takes. Which is exactly why tube clamp fittings turn up in areas that at first glance have nothing to do with one another: on the farm, in shop fitting, in the factory hall, in the children's room. This page shows what our customers actually use them for.
Railings and fall protection
The most common use. Handrails, stair railings, balcony and terrace railings, roof edge protection, safety guardrails on machinery and access platforms, wheelchair ramps, mezzanine floors.
The principle: bolt posts with a base flange to the substrate, lay the handrail on with tees, form the corners with elbows. The complete sequence is set out in our guide to building a handrail.
Fences, enclosures and agriculture
Safety fences, milking parlours, agricultural enclosures, stall partitions, bicycle racks and trolley bays. With the mesh panel clips you can clamp steel mesh up to 8 mm thick directly to the tube – the combination of tube frame and mesh infill has been standard in stall and fence construction for decades.
Industry and occupational safety
Machine guarding and enclosures, heavy-duty workstations, shelving systems, impact protection, roof edge fall protection, access platforms, plant in water treatment and recycling. For impact protection and heavy structures, choose Ø 60.3 mm; for shelving and guarding, Ø 42.4 mm is usually sufficient.
The practical advantage in operation: a bolted structure can be rebuilt. If the machine changes, the enclosure moves with it – with a welded solution it would be scrap.
Sport, leisure and public spaces
Ball-stop netting for golf, cricket, baseball and football, sports grounds and arenas, playground equipment, theme park barriers and queue management, film sets, exhibition stands.
Retail and shop fitting
Merchandise displays and retail fixtures, clothes rails, market stalls, shelving, exhibition displays. Here you normally work with the slimmer sizes Ø 26.9 mm and Ø 33.7 mm – light, strong enough and visually unobtrusive.
Construction, traffic and signage
Road signs, general signage, commercial hoarding frames, motorway control installations, lighting supports, municipal fixtures, temporary structures, canopies and carports.
Furniture and interior fit-out
Industrial-style furniture has been in fashion for years, and the tube clamp look is at the heart of it: dining tables, desks, shelves, beds, coat racks, room dividers. For furniture, Ø 26.9 mm or Ø 33.7 mm is enough – and a plastic plug belongs on every open tube end so that nobody catches themselves on the cut edge.
What tube clamp fittings must not be used for
Two limits matter – and we would rather state them plainly than bury them in the small print:
- No scaffolding. Working scaffolds are covered by their own standards and test procedures. Our type test does not cover that, and a tube clamp fitting is not a scaffold coupler – even if it looks similar.
- Not every component is a railing component. Mesh panel clips (170, 171), collars with a hook (182), adjustable corner fittings (125H) and handrail brackets with a straight screw (143W) have not been subjected to alternating load testing and are not intended for use as fall protection. The note appears with every item concerned.
Why the material makes the difference
Many of these applications stand outdoors – for decades. Our tube clamp fittings are made of malleable cast iron to ASTM A197, hot-dip galvanised to ASTM A153 and additionally electro-galvanised. The grub screw is stainless steel 304 (V2A) and does not seize, so the structure can still be dismantled years later.
